KUIPER, Wilma E., Kalamazoo, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, July 7, 2021. Wilma was born September 26, 1928 the daughter of Abram and Nellie (Wagonaar) Visser.
She was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area and worked several years as a secretary at Clarage Fan Company and Wilson Brinker Association before becoming a stay-at-home mom. On September 16, 1950 Wilma was united in marriage to her loving husband of over 70 years, Neil Kuiper.
Wilma clung to her deep faith in God through the devastating, unimaginable grief and loss of losing all three of her sons and a dear daughter-in-law. She was a compassionate, fun, loving and faithful wife, mom, grandma, sister, daughter and friend. Wilma was devoted to her family and loved time spent together! This was especially evident in all the fun times at their home on Austin Lake and their many years in Florida. In her spare time, Wilma enjoyed reading, knitting, baking, playing tennis, croquet, shuffleboard, bike riding, walking and even a little running in her eighties! She also volunteered at various organizations through the years. Sadly, Alzheimer's gradually took hold of her but she somehow kept her fun laugh and sweet spirit until the end.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Kuiper on November 18, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her sons, David, Richard, and William Kuiper; daughter-in-law, Susie and brothers, John, Sam, and Gerrit Visser; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Wilma is survived by her children, Susan (James) VanderLugt, Leanne (Mark) Mejeur; daughter-in-law, Sondra Kuiper; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Effie Dykstra, Henry (Clare) Visser, Norma Herder; sister-in-law, Betty Kuiper and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00am Monday, July 19, at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. A light reception will follow the service at church and interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1:30pm. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, Shepherd's Center of Kalamazoo, and Southwest Michigan Young Life. To view Wilma's personalized webpage please visit
