Of Kalamazoo Bill passed away Monday morning, December 28, 2009 at Wynwood of Portage. He was born December 16, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Herman and Conant Brown Johnson. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Doris Drake in Kalamazoo. In 1952, Bill began work for Hammond Machinery as a salesman and retired as Vice President in 1990. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Doris Johnson; their four children, Roger Carolyn Johnson of Washington D.C., Eric Johnson of Kalamazoo, Todd Monica Johnson of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Mark Susan Johnson of Battle Creek; six grandchildren; one sister, JoAnne Clapp of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Bill's family wishes to acknowledge all those who cared for Bill while a resident at Wood Hills and Wynwood, with a special thanks to Wynwood Executive Director and family friend, Dan Gajeski for his help and daily supervision of Bill's care. Private family services will be held a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Westwood United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
