HOOGENDOORN, Wilhelmina "Willie"
Kalamazoo Went to be with the Lord Friday morning, July 11, 2014. Willie was born October 28, 1923 in Kalamazoo to the late Anthony and Dena Rijn VanderWeele. Willie was employed for several years with the Western Michigan University Police Department as a Records File Clerk. She was a lifelong and active member of Third Reformed Church now Centerpoint where she was in charge of the cradle roll; planted the annual flowers for many years; and arranging for cakes and cookies for church fellowships. Willie also enjoyed playing the piano and singing. On April 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Cornelius Hoogendoorn who preceded her in death on March 5, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Thomas Hoogendoorn; son-in-law, Larry Egberts; a sister and 3 brothers, Nellie Nieuwenhuis, Adrian, Peter, and John VanderWeele. Surviving is her daughter, Donna Egberts; daughter-in-law, Jan Hoogendoorn-DeWit; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Mike, and Tim Egberts, Kim David Turner, Rebecca Mark Sargent, Randy Jenny Hoogendoorn, Rachel Spencer Larsen; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Luteyn; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family Sunday today from 5-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held Monday, July 14, at 1:00pm at Centerpoint, 2345 North 10th Street with Pastor Dar WanderWal officiating. Private family interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Centerpoint, or Park Village Pines.
