YOUNG, Virginia "Ginnie"
Kalamazoo

Ginnie was received in the arms of her Lord, Friday, October 30, 2015 at the age of 87. She was born August 3, 1928 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Roy and Leta (Cam) Mitchell. Ginnie Mitchell was united in marriage to Jack Young on June 26, 1948 for a loving 67 years together. Ginnie was a "brittle" diabetic and Jack lovingly cared for her daily needs for the last several years. Ginnie loved her family and enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids. She worked for years as a secretary at the United Kennel Club, Westwood Baptist Church and Young Marketing Services. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. Ginnie loved to sing and participated in many musicals in her younger days. She was a longtime choir member. Ginnie was a 'mother' figure for many college students through Westwood Baptist Church's Young Singles group, and she loved them like her own. Ginnie, and Jack who survives, together loved their 3 children, Dan (Joan) Young, Stephen Young (deceased) and his wife, Debi Young and Lori (David) Young-Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Beverly Beardsley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginnie's family would like to gratefully thank the caregivers and staff from Heritage Community Care Center for the very compassionate and committed care over the past 3 years. The family will greet friends on Sunday, November 1st from 3-5pm at Kalamazoo Community Church, 2435 N. 26th St., and again on Monday, November 2nd from 10-11am, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00am. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Per the family's direction, cremation has taken place. A private interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ginnie's name can be made to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or to the Salvation Army.
