STYLES, Viola G. Newell
of Whitehall, Michigan Died July 4, 2013 at the age of 102. Viola was born February 3, 1911 in Menno, SD to Albert and Grace Marshall Newell. She was united in marriage to Harry Styles who preceded her in death in 1963. In the early 50's, Viola served as a Girl Scout Leader for several years. She was also active in the Civil Defense Organization, becoming proficient in first aid, and other emergency skills. Viola was employed at Western Michigan University for ten years. She enjoyed her bowling leagues immensely, and continued on a team until her early 80's, and kept up her flower garden for a few years after that. Viola is survived by her daughter, Judith Larry LaGuire of Montague, MI; 4 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Viola is preceded in death by a step-daughter, Nancy Styles; a daughter, Linda Lanning; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Family is invited to share in the interment ceremony at one o'clock on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Marshall, MI. Memorials in Viola's name may be directed to Midwest Cancer Center.
