Stephen Bruce Garman

January 27, 1950 — November 29, 2019

Stephen Bruce Garman, 69, passed away on November 29, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born January 27, 1950 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the Harold (deceased) and Mary Elizabeth Garman of Portage, Michigan. Steve is survived by his wife, Mary Garman of Bloomingdale; two sons from a previous marriage, Shawn Garman, grandchild Quinn, and Cory Garman, grandchild Sydney; 3 brothers, Wesley (Nancy) Garman, Curtis (Bridgette) Garman, and Timothy (Deborah) Garman, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold, and two older siblings, Valerie and Richard.

Steve loved cars and was well known for his ability to design, build and repair anything mechanical. In his younger years he spent much of his time under the hood of a car building engines for racing both on the street and at the strip. Steve was no stranger to hard work. He was raised on a farm in Comstock, Michigan and worked in the field and pig lots for farmers in the area. He learned early on what it takes to run a farm and how to maintain the machinery. He also learned the important lesson of neighbor helping neighbor.

Steve excelled in auto mechanics placing 2nd in the Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest and working at various automotive repair facilities including at Phil's Airport Shell, Montgomery Ward Automotive and running a shop of his own in Mattawan. He progressed to bigger equipment at Glendale Equipment Company. It was during this time that Steve also worked as an EMT for Pinedale Ambulance serving the Bloomingdale and Gobles area.

He also loved riding horses. He and Mary would trailer up the horses and travel all over Michigan with their friends to ride the trails.

Steve finished his career at Brookside Farms/Fritz's Blueberries in Paw Paw maintaining all the equipment and doing what he truly loved to do; building and redesigning equipment to make the operations more efficient. With his combined years of experience, Steve could build, fix and operate anything including computers.

We will miss his humor, his stories, and will always remember his strong work ethic.
