Scotts, MI Passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Russell was born February 7, 1931 in Midland, MI the son of the late John E. and Hazel B Emery Smith and lived in the Portage area for many years. He was employed by the Upjohn Company for 32 years as a pharmacy technician. Russell was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather and was a member of Lakeland Reformed Church for many years. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He enjoyed downhill skiing, traveling, camping and spent 14 winters in Florida. Russell is survived by his wife, Charlotte Smith; his sons, Daniel Barbara Fleming-Smith Smith and Scott B. Katherine Smith all of Lombard, IL; step-children, Deborah Richard Gibson of NC, Robert Christy Warren of Mattawan and Steven Warren of Milwaukee, WI; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; sisters, Doraline Krotzer and Alice Strait; a brother, Dale Smith; many nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 7, 2013 in the Lakeland Reformed Church, 10442 Sprinkle Road, with Rev. Ed Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-7 PM, in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the West Michigan Cancer Center, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Lakeland Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
