Ronald George Harrington, 78, passed away June 15, 2019. He was born February 8, 1941 in Kalamazoo to the late George Edward and Elda Leone Harrington.
Ron graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Ron had a witty humor and entertained with his funny quips. Ron enjoyed reading, especially books about history, math, guns, hunting and archaeology. He collected guns and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved to watch the Detroit Tigers on television. He enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed fishing with his nephew, Rich Taggett, and named his fishing boat Moby Rich. He always carried his camera and was famous for taking photos. Another hobby was ham radio.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Libby, in 1991.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Copeland of Portage, Kathy (Cliff) Niskala of Lawton, and Anna Belle Apotheker of Kalamazoo; brothers-in-law, Craig (Rita) Taggett of Kalamazoo, Jon Taggett of Fresno, CA, and Dale (Gloria) Taggett of Portage, MI; nieces, Kimberly (Michael) Pippenger of Denver, CO, Christina (Scott) Thomas of Richmond, VA, Reagan Taggett of Battle Creek, and Jackie (Doug) Shadid of Las Vegas, NV; nephews, John Martens of Mattawan, Rob (Angeline) Taggett of Oxford, MI, Rich (Karen Anne) Taggett of Clarksville, TN, and John (Megan) Kennon; great-nieces, Jordyn Martens of Otsego, Bailee Martens of Plainwell; great-nephews, Christopher Tyson of East Lansing, Rishawn Tyson of Battle Creek, Colton Pippenger of Denver, CO, Keegan Greene of Hawaii, Garan Greene of Oxford, MI, Alex (Kensie) Story of Illinois, Brian Taggett of Lakeland, FL, Adam Taggett of Corpus Christie, TX, Parker Taggett, Grayson Taggett, and Sullivan Taggett; as well as longtime and best friend, Bill Goggin and his wife, Charlie of Kalamazoo, and great neighbor and friend, Beverly Olson of Portage.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 19 at 1:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002 with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
