BORDEN, Roger J.
Kalamazoo Roger passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the age of 76. He was born October 6, 1938 to the late Harry and Violet Wheeler Borden. Roger was united in marriage to Sandra Taylor in Kalamazoo. Sandie survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 5 February 1957 until he retired as a Command Sergeant Major on 4 February 1993. Roger was actively involved in the Boy Scout program for over 50 years, and is an Eagle Scout, and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was employed with American Electric Power AEP for 29 years and was a handyman extraordinaire for anyone in need, especially at his church home, Northeastern Baptist, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active member of American Legion Post 207 as historian. His love of music started with the Kalamazoo Male Chorus and included being a member of the Singing Crusaders for 30 years. Roger is survived by his wife, Sandie Borden; children, Stephen Laura Borden, Stacy Francis Hsu, Brian Skillman and Brad Renee Skillman; 9 grandchildren, Margaret, Emily, Alexander, Nathaniel, Ryan, Ian, Abigail, Jordan and Connor; siblings, David Borden, Sandra Ed Eggleston and Terry Judy Borden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jane Borden. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. The funeral service will be Thursday, April 2, 2015, 11:00am at Northeastern Baptist Church, 6536 E. G Ave., Kalamazoo. Pastor George Coon will officiate. Burial will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:30pm with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rota Kiwan Camp Stewards, American Legion Post 207, Northeastern Baptist Church or Singing Crusaders.
