ZYLMAN, Robert D.
of Portage, Michigan Bob passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014. He was born on April 12, 1930 in Kalamazoo, one of seven children to the late Amos and Marjorie Barber Zylman. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Portage Central High School. He then joined the United States Marie Corps serving 4 years during the Korean Conflict. On July 16, 1955, Bob was married to the former Mary Lynch. He worked for 31 years for Miller Lumber Company in Kalamazoo until their closing in 1984. Bob also worked for Portage Public Schools for 7 years until his retirement. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Zylman; their son, Randy Zylman of Schoolcraft; sister, Bonnie Allen Garlick of Portage, sister-in-law, Cheryl Zylman of Augusta; brother-in-law, Robert Frielink of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue. Interment with military honors will follow in the Portage South Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association.
