Robert E. Ruecker, age 80, passed away October 12, 2016. Bob was born October 27, 1935, son of Ernest and Irene Ruecker, and was a longtime resident of Galesburg. In the 1960's he was the police chief of Augusta and for over 30 years served as a fireman with the Battle Creek Fire Department and the Battle Creek VA Hospital. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish; and also enjoyed playing cards. He was always known for lending a helping hand to others in need. Surviving are his wife Barbara (St. Jean) Ruecker; children Rebecca Newell and Scott Ruecker; grandchildren Jarred Newell, Charlene Newell, Samantha Swafford, Christina Ruecker, Nicole Ruecker; 7 great-grandchildren; his best friend Anson Lobretto and many other family and friends. Visitation will be from 1 to 2PM on Friday, October 14th at the Langeland Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek Street where a celebration of Bob's life will begin at 2:00PM Friday. Following services cremation will take place.
