Robert D. Herder went to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 4, 2021. He was born on February 4, 1932 in Kalamazoo, to the late Hiram and Jennie (Klimp) Herder. Bob served in the U.S. Army from July of 1952 until honorably discharged in July of 1954. Bob was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church. Bob was the cabinetmaker at Johnson-Howard Lumber Co. for most of his life. Bob was talented to be able to fix or create just about anything. His faith and family were his priority. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma (Visser); children, Tom (Sally) Herder, Lynn (Phil) Kloosterman, Kay (Ed) Niewoonder; grandchildren, Steve (Kelli) Herder, Jennifer Herder, Ryan Herder, Laura Kloosterman, Carrie (Jared) Garrison, Mark Kloosterman, Chad (Josie) Niewoonder, Nate (Paige) Niewoonder, David Niewoonder; great grandchildren, Jayden and Avery Herder, Drew Garrison; brothers, Vern Herder and Paul (Maureen) Herder; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Nathan (Norma) Herder, his parents, a grandson, Baby Niewoonder, sister-in-law, Lois Herder.
The family will greet friends at Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, Kalamazoo, on Wednesday, February 10th from 10-11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. A private burial will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family is being served by the Langeland Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's name can be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
