Passed away on May 20, 2018 at the age of 54. Richard was born in Kalamazoo on December 29, 1963, the son of the late Rozwell Harris and Addis Birchfield Harris. He graduated from Comstock High School in 1982. He received his Bachelors Degree and received several certifications in Fire Investigation Services. He served as a Fire Chief in Grand Rapids for many years. He was currently employed with National Forensic Consultants as Director of Fire Services. He had many hobbies and interests, which included serving as first aid director at rocket football, he was a Lieutenant at the training office of Kalamazoo Fire Department Explorer Post 274 and was a student congress representative of the Deca Club. He is survived by his son, Javier E. Pantoja; three sisters, Linda (Richard) Bishop, Jeanne (Stan) Wheeler, and Patricia (Bill) Lovely; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Harris; and his baby brother, Thomas John Harris. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 4th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5th, with Pastor Bryan Craddock officiating. Following the funeral service, interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Memorial contributions may be given to Calvary Bible Church East.
