Passed away Saturday evening, September 19, 2020. Richard was born May 13, 1934 in Detroit, MI the son of Joseph and Gertrude (Lang) Craig.
On February 13, 1960 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Patricia (Swift) who preceded him in death on November 23, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jimmy Craig. Richard is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Craig, Susan (John) Mason; 2 grandchildren, Zachery Mason and Sara Mason; and a brother, Mark (Betsy) Craig. Brothers and sisters-in-law Dennis (Christine) Swift, Sharon Swift, and William (Arlene) Swift are mourning his loss. Surviving nieces and nephews are Emily (Zack) Craig-Fink, Kyle Craig (Corrine Hoyle), and Brian Craig; Carolyn Muschott, Cindy (Jim) Shumard, Angy (Jim) Westbay, and Kevin Swift. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
A graduate of Wayne State University, Dick primarily practiced worker's compensation law first in Grand Rapids, then in Kalamazoo. A highly ethical and compassionate attorney, he served clients thoughtfully and with dignity. His brother Mark joined Dick after graduating from Wayne State as well, and they formed Craig and Craig law firm. Dick enjoyed golf, cribbage, Jeopardy, good movies and movie trivia. He was known as a punster with a dry wit and a love of words and language. Dick and Pat's favorite place was Tortola, BVI where they spent several winter weeks almost every year for 30 years.
He was a great husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, friend and neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew him.
