The Lord took Nelly to her Heavenly Home on November 13, 2019. She was born on August 8, 1921 in Koblenz, Germany to Regina and George Oppenhauser. She was married to Harm Booy on November 21, 1943. Together they experienced many encounters with the Nazis during WWII, overcoming many challenges. They were employed as a team by royalty in the Netherlands and Germany—Nelly being the cook and Harm the butler. They undertook similar positions when they migrated to the United States—working at the Blodgett estate in Grand Rapids and Catholic Diocese Bishop Paul Donovan. Harm died on June 19, 1994. Nelly enjoyed music, cooking, friends, and her beloved animals. A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 24 at 4:00pm at Third Christian Reformed Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Third Christian Reformed Church.
