WORKMAN, Peter N. "Pete"
of Kalamazoo Passed away December 14, 2011 at Upjohn Community Care Center following a brief illness. Peter was born January 28, 1924 in Kalamazoo to the late Samuel and Sarah Johnson Workman. He was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. Pete proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1944-1947. He was also a lifelong member of Bethany Reformed Church. On September 24, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia "Ginny" Bushouse. Pete and Ginny both had a passion for golf and travel and celebrated their 50th anniversary in Hawaii, their favorite destination. For several years, they enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach where they enjoyed walking the beach, meeting new friends and playing many rounds of golf. Peter was married for nearly 63 years to his loving wife, who preceded him in death on June 21, 2011. Surviving are their three children, Shari Thomas LaBrenz of Kalamazoo, Paul Cheryl Workman of Bellingham, WA and Lynda Tim Heys of Grand Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Paul Anderson and James Heys; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Peter in death was his only sister, Susan Workman Gage. Honoring Pete's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for both Peter and Virginia will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorials in Peter's name may be directed to Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Foundation, Bethany Reformed Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
