Pearl Grace Sterken passed away on Sunday March 3, 2019. She was born December 3, 1924 in Zeeland, MI a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary (Nagelkirk) Raterink. On December 27, 1946 Pearl married Alvin Sterken and they moved to Kalamazoo in 1950 when Al opened the Central Pharmacy on Westnedge Avenue. She focused her life on raising her family and helped Al at the store. They were members of Third Christian Reformed Church. Al preceded Pearl in death on April 4, 2008. Pearl is survived by three children, Tom (Sandy) Sterken of Kirkland, WA, Rick (Lena) Sterken of Kalamazoo and Mary (Paul) Winn of Lawton; four grandchildren, Sara (Ryan) Kinter, Jeff (Bonnie) Sterken, Brandon Sterken and Brooke Sterken; siblings, Gordon Raterink, Floyd Raterink and Mary VanIwaarden; sisters-in-law, Esther Raterink and Esther DeVries; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 12 to 1pm Thursday, March 7th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street where services will begin at 1pm. Private interment will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Third Christian Reformed Church or St. Mary's Kidney Transplant Center.
