Paula K. DeVito "Kay"

March 18, 1956 — August 3, 2018

Passed away Friday afternoon, August 3, 2018. Kay was born March 18, 1956 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Paul and Betty (Comer) Bishop and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. Kay was a softball enthusiast. She took great pride in Parchment Little League where she was very active as a coach and administrator. When Kay was 16 she went to work at M & W Tailor Shop as a secretary. She quickly discovered that she wanted to do more at the shop than be a secretary. Through hard work and determination, she eventually purchased M & W in 1995 where she continued to work 6 days a week until the time of her death. She worked hard, however, family was always her number one priority. She spent most days "bragging" about her grandsons. She loved taking trips to Chicago with her daughter and daughter-in-law and enjoying drinks at Blue Agave with the "girls". She always made sure to bring Chicago style pizza back home. She was a country music fan that loved Garth Brooks. She always kept an open door. Anyone was welcome to any holiday or celebration that was at her house. Kay never met a stranger because within 5 minutes she knew something important about them. She was well known but always stayed humble even though she knew she was "a big deal". She crossed paths with thousands of people and remembered almost all of them by name. Her personality is something that could only be matched by her drive to succeed. She lived the "American dream". Her life was not always easy, however she lived with grace and humility and never complained. On May 28, 1977, Kay was united in marriage to her loving husband of 41 years, Dennis DeVito, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Nick (Sandy) DeVito, Elizabeth (Jake) Bronson; 2 grandchildren, Louis and Salvatore "Sal"; mother-in-law, Eleanor DeVito; brothers and sisters, Neil (Dorothy) Bishop, Ann Seaman, Gayle Baker, Theresa Bishop, Cindy Bishop-Jones, Jeff (Debbie) Bishop; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at 12:00pm Wednesday, August 8 at First Baptist Church, 315 West Michigan Ave. Friends may meet the family from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday, August 7 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick and from 11:00-12:00 Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
