Parchment, MI Paul died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday evening, March 11, 2012. He was born February 29, 1948, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Roy and Shirley Quinn. Paul enlisted in the US Army in 1966 serving in Vietnam, Germany and stateside before being discharged in 1972. Paul worked for Summit Polymers and also drove cab for Yellow Cab. In his free time, Paul enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and Pogo and watching TV. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandkids. Paul was preceded in death by his parents. On August 15, 1971, Paul was united in marriage with the former Christine LaViolette, who survives. Also surviving are: seven children, Connie Nelson, Michael Brenda Nelson, Norman Laura Nelson, Chad Marcie Nelson, Lisa Kevin Burdick all of New York, Paul Nelson of Kalamazoo and Todd Shannon Nelson of Comstock; twenty-two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marie George Frios of Indiana, Sue Jim Marsh of Kalamazoo, Barbara Menter of Parchment and Teresa Wayne Mayfield of Kalamazoo; three brothers, Richard Nelson of Parchment, David Nelson of Parchment and Roy Debbie Quinn, Jr. of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. "Dad, enjoy the ride in the Huey!" Cremation has taken place. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:30 Friday morning, March 16, 2012, at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service should be in the cemetery's cortege area by 11:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, Paul's family requests memorials be directed to the VA Medical Center, 5500 Armstrong Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
