Patricia Rollyson (Rollyson) Shumar

Patricia R. Shumar, age 87 of Kalamazoo and Portage, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022. She was born on October 19, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Hoy and Esther (Perrin) Rollyson. Patricia was a graduate of Western Michigan University with a BA in education. She was an aide at the library, a member of Tri Sigma Sorority and was on the Panhellenic Council. She was a member of the Jaycees and was a member of the Professional Executive Association of Kalamazoo. She was cofounder of a custom clothing business. For 20 years, Patricia worked in Human Resources for Jacobsen and then was the office manager at the local Jaqua Real Estate office for 4 years. She loved to quilt and worked at Fields Fabrics as the quilting expert. In fact, she had a lifetime interest in many handicrafts to include decorative stitching and knitting. If she was not busy creating something with her hands you could find her reading her latest mystery series. She was greatly loved and admired by her family and friends and leaves a legacy of love through them. Her family includes her daughters: Jennifer (Daniel L'Esperance) Shumar-L'Esperance and Cynthia Shumar; her grandsons: Andy (Kristin) L'Esperance and Adam (Heather) L'Esperance; her great- granddaughter Isabelle Grace; and her brother John Rollyson. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 2:00 PM at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church 2010 Nichols Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004.
