VANDERBEEK, MURIEL R.

Muriel Ruth Vanderbeek, age 84, passed away February 21, 2016 in Kalamazoo. Muriel was born May 11, 1931 in South Haven, MI the daughter of Russell and Vilma (Nehrke) Harbin. She was a longtime resident of Kalamazoo and member of the Immanuel Fellowship Church. Muriel was employed for several years with KVCC Admissions Office prior to her retirement. She also was a volunteer with the Borgess Service League. Muriel was married to Gordon R. Vanderbeek who preceded her in death on October 15, 1982. Surviving are her children Rick (Kris) Vanderbeek, Sheila Vanderbeek and Sheryl King; grandchildren Ryan, Patrick, Chantelle and Sara; five great-grandchildren and a brother John "Jack" Harbin; nieces Terri, Kathy and Jeanine. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, February 25th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where a service to celebrate Muriel's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 26th. A private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials in Muriel's memory may be directed to the Borgess Service League.
