DE HAAN, Miriam C.
of Kalamazoo Passed away suddenly on August 10, 2011 at her residence. Miriam was born September 6, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI, daughter of Neal and Nellie Sikkenga VanderWeele and was a lifelong resident. Miriam was a charter member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. She graduated from WMU in 1946 with a BS in teaching and taught in the Portage and Kalamazoo Public Schools. She also attended Purdue University and was employed as an Aeronautical Engineer for Curtiss Wright in Columbus, OH. Miriam left her imprint on every activity and organization with which she was involved. These include PEO, Altrusa, Community Chest Campaigns United Way, WMU Alumni Association and the Gary Fund. Miriam was preceded in death by a grandson; by two brothers Gordon J. and Orva Neal VanderWeele and a daughter-in-law Nancy DeHaan. On June 19, 1948, she was married in Kalamazoo to John J. DeHaan. Surviving besides John are 4 children, Connie Jo and husband David Bowman of Kalamazoo, Gayle Bigelow and husband Brian of Kalamazoo, Tom �Nik� DeHaan and partner Carla Kennedy of Kalamazoo and Timothy Neal DeHaan of Salem, NJ; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. Friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. 343-1508. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 15th at the Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. Private interment in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Miriam�s memory may be made to Westwood C.R.C. Youth Programs.
