NELSON, Mildred E.
Kalamazoo, formerly of Cadillac Mildred Nelson passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at Tendercare Westwood, where she had lived since 2004. She lived in Cadillac until moving to Kalamazoo in 1999, to be closer to her family. She was born to Arvid A. and Anna Anderson Nordell on November 4, 1915 in Gilbert, MI. and moved to Cadillac at the age of three. She attended the Cadillac schools and graduated in 1933. In 1940, she married Harold A. Nelson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac. He preceded her in death in January, 1990. Mrs. Nelson was employed for a number of years at the Cadillac-Wexford Library. She also worked as a sales representative for a cosmetic company and was an active member of the PTA. She was a member of the First Covenant Church and a former member of the choir. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Dorothy Ratliff; and a great granddaughter, Mara Joelle Barnum. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Richard Berg of Spring Lake and Marilyn Barnum of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Eric Kyoung-Im Berg of Laurel, MD, Bradley Rebecca Barnum of Kalamazoo and Melissa James Hudson; great grandchildren, Ashleigh Hudson, Lauryn Hudson and Angelina Berg; sister-in-law, Ruth Nelson; special cousin, Shirlee Truesdale; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In accordance with her wishes, no services or visitation will be held. Mrs. Nelson will be buried in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cadillac, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Borgess Hospice. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. 343-1508.
