Mike Martin passed away March 4, 2014 at the age of 72. He was born in Battle Creek on March 6, 1941, the son of the late James and Betsy Griswold Martin. He retired as the Pilot Plant Coordinator from Upjohn. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary Sullivan Martin; four children, Shaun Martin of Paw Paw, Lisa Martin of Portage, Michael Paul Martin of Kalamazoo and Bridget Martin of Milwaukee WI; one grandson Trae Martin and one brother Jim Martin. Mike had many interest and hobbies including Golfing, sailing, hockey and playing cards. He especially enjoyed time on the porch at the family cottage in South Haven. He belonged to the Elks Lodge #50 and was a social member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus. Other than his close relationship with both family and friends, one of his biggest achievements was earning a lifetime achievement award from USA Hockey for his dedication to hockey refereeing. A celebration of Michael's life will held at 11 am on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009. Friends may visit with the family from 2-5 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Lodge #50, 5303 W. Main St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
