of Kalamazoo, MI Died Wednesday morning June 1, 2011. Merle was born February 8, 1918 in Jamestown, Michigan the youngest of seven children of Henry and Martha Tjietjsma DeWeerd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Byington DeWeerd and 2 children, Jeanne DeWeerd and David DeWeerd. Merle is survived by 3 daughters, Sally Charlie Baker, Mary Jack Jordan, and Margaret Carl Baker; a son, Thomas Susan Umidi DeWeerd; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Lartee White. Private burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation.
