Kalamazoo Martha went home to be with the Lord Friday evening, July 16, 2010. She was born February 23, 1923, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Henry and Katie Wiersma Slater and had been a life long area resident. Martha was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Minor, Steven, Garrett and Emko Slater; and by a sister, Edith Bowles. On November 9, 1945, Martha was united in marriage with Henry De Visser, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Jan Post of Kalamazoo, Donald Pamela De Visser of Portland, OR and David Joan De Visser of Schoolcraft; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. and one hour prior to the service at church. Services will be held at 10:30am Monday morning at Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, with Rev. Steve Slater, officiating. Private interment will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Park Village Pines or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
