M. Joyce LeBrecht, age 91, died surrounded by love on Thursday, December 13, 2018. She was born April 28, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Alvin and Emelia (Wiegand) Elliott. Joyce grew up in a home behind a creamery and had a lifelong love of ice cream. She was the best milkshake maker and enjoyed root beer floats.
On December 12, 1945, she married Henry "Hank" LeBrecht. They enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing together. They rejoiced at the addition of each grandchild to the family. Many trips were spent traveling to share time with their grandchildren and encourage them in their endeavors. Joyce and Hank were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portage, where she played the organ and piano and sang in the choir. Music was always a passion for Joyce and she instilled that love into her children and grandchildren also.
Joyce worked as a library technical assistant at Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She enjoyed spending time volunteering for several local organizations in Portage including the library, Loaves and Fishes, Meals on Wheels, and the Interpretive Arts at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Joyce liked to spend time gardening, crocheting, and was on a bowling league. Her beautiful penmanship was enjoyed by many in her handwritten notes and letters she continued to send.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sons, Dale and David LeBrecht; her son-in-law Jack Calvey; and her siblings: Helen Field, Earl Elliott, Sandy Elliott, Lois Daniels, and her twin sister Betty "June" Quinn. Joyce's family includes her children: Carol (Glenn) Williams of Wisconsin, Dean (Mechelle) LeBrecht of California, Amy Calvey of Texas, and Melanie (Phil) Wesa of Illinois; her 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and staff at the Woodside of Friendship Village. The care and love they showed Joyce was a blessing.
A memorial service for Joyce will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes or to Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Please visit Joyce's webpage for her online guest book or to leave a condolence. www.langelands.com.
