Louise M. Sportel passed away peacefully at Crystal Woods on Tuesday, August 20th, 2019 at the age of 95. She was born on August 5th in 1924 to the late Frank & Grace (Vander Plough) Yonkman in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On September 12 of 1946 she married Henry G. Sportel. Louise was a lifelong member of Second Christian Reformed Church and worked at JC Penny's Credit and Layaway Department for 20 years. She was active in her church's ladies bible study group and made friends in the "Tie That Binds" group. Louise was an avid reader and loved to crochet things such as afghans for her family and hangers for many. She enjoyed volunteering her time at Park Village Pine's Gift Shop and at Second Impressions.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Janet Pott. She is survived by her daughters: Linda (John) VanderBilt and Marcia (Robert) Duffin; six grandchildren: David VanderBilt, Corrie Hitchcock, Beth and Kyle Hansen, Lori and Matt Duffin; nine great-grandchildren: Ashley, Victoria, Hanah, Sam, Elise, Jack, Noah, Austin and Logan; sister-in-law Garilyn Bogard; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Louise will be held on from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23rd at the Langeland's 9th Street Chapel. A private interment will take place at Grand Prairie Cemetery.
