Lester L. Shaffer

SHAFFER, Lester L. of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Lester was born July 24, 1924 in Shelby, MI the son of Clinton E. and Lida O. Knapp Shaffer and lived in the Grant area for many years before moving to Kalamazoo 2 years ago. Lester was employed as a metal finisher, for over 45 years and served in the United States Army/Air Corps for 3 years, during WWII. On May 14, 1946, he married Beverly Jean McClain, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Corvin Carol Shaffer, Gary Mary Shaffer, Pamela Shaffer Bob Boik, and Brenda Shaffer Michael Mahon; 10 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, George Mary Lou Shaffer; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois James Bush; 4 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Centerpoint Church, 2345 N. 10th St., with Rev. Dar VanderWal, officiating. A private family burial will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grant Wesleyan Church, 688 West 112th St., Grant, MI 49321, or Centerpoint Church, 2345 N. 10th St., Kalamazoo.
