EKEMA, KATHERINE J.

Katherine Jean Ekema, age 92, went home to be with her Lord on October 12, 2019. Katherine was born August 15, 1927 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of William and Suzanne (Vanden Bos) Hiemstra. She was a lifelong resident and graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. Katherine was a longtime member of the Twin Lakes Reformed Church, and she especially enjoyed shopping, crafts and camping.
Family was a very important part of her life. On September 21, 1956, she was united in marriage to Leonard "Bud" Ekema, who survives. Also surviving are her children Thomas (Kathy) Camp, Marcia (Thomas) Kiel, Len (Ruth) Ekema; a daughter-in-law Karen Camp; grandchildren Carrie, T.J., Joel, Eric, Jessica, Matt, Tim, Jennie; great-grandchildren Brynn, Cade, Castyn, Cole, Nolan, Brody, Hadley, Maci, Quinn, Mark, Eve, Adalyn, Olive, Paisley, Liam, Meredith, Simon, Shirley, Tristan and one more on the way; step-grandchildren Matthew, Rebekah; sister-in-law Loretta Hiemstra. Katherine was preceded in death by her son Mark Camp; by her parents and by a brother Paul Hiemstra.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Tuesday, October 15th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th Street, where services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday with Chaplain Kim Sandelin officiating. A graveside service will be held in Alamo Center Cemetery. Memorials in Katherine's memory may be directed to Park Village Pines or Reformed Heritage Christian School.
