of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away at Bronson Hospital on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Age 48. Karen was born in Kalamazoo on June 25, 1964, the daughter of Woodrow "Bud" Peckhem and Sharon Peckhem. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and then attended Nazareth College. She was employed by Western Michigan University's Paper, Chemical and Imaging Department at the College of Engineering. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, skiing and traveling. Karen was devoted to her children and was a proud supporter of their academic and athletic achievements in the Mattawan school system. She was married to Peter N. Lawrence on December 31, 1998 in Kalamazoo; he survives her. She is also survived by her daughter and son, Natalie and Nathan Lawrence, both of Kalamazoo; her mother, Sharon Peckhem and her father, Woodrow "Bud" Barb Peckhem; two brothers and two sisters, David, Jan Larry, Debbie Tim and Mikel Jennifer; her mother-in-law, Sandra Lawrence; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shelley William, Matt Erin and Sally Bryan. Karen was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edwin Lawrence. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Fetzer Center at Western Michigan University, 2350 Business Ct., Kalamazoo, MI 49008. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mattawan Athletic Booster Club or SPCA of Kalamazoo.
