Kalamazoo, MI Passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 28, 2013, age 87. Julia was born in Ludington, MI on April 29, 1926, the daughter of the late Omer and Juliana Christiansen Carter. She graduated from Scottville High School and the University Of Michigan School Of Nursing in 1947. She was employed by Bixby Hospital in Adrian, where she had worked in the OR, the ER, and taught nursing students through U of M. She also helped to open the first coronary and intensive care unit at Bixby. Later she worked and was director of nursing at Oakview Nursing Home in Ludington, MI. She loved and enjoyed her family, being a 4-H leader, golfing, and serving the Lord. She had been a member of Ogden Bible Church in Adrian, Washington Ave. Baptist Church in Ludington, and Community Baptist Church in Englewood, FL where she was also active in Christian Women's Club. She married her loving husband, Carl Otto Griewahn, on October 12, 1963 and they were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary with family & friends this past October. She leaves to cherish her memory Carl; her children, Gerald Shirley Davis Griewahn of Sparta, TN, Michael Pam McComb of Adrian, MI, Candace Mike Reed of Blissfield, MI and Virginia "Ginny" Charles "Chuck" Parnaby of Portage, MI; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Golden Carter, Burton Carter, and George Carter, and her first husband, Edward McComb. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St., where friends may visit with family from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Moises Gomes will officiate. Memorials in Julia's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
