John Vroegop, age 84, died peacefully on December 22, 2018, at Rose Arbor Hospice Home. He was born August 15, 1934, in the Netherlands, the son of John and Alida (Plugboer) Vroegop. John served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He co-owned and operated Richland T.V. for 20 years, before running his own business, Vroegop T.V. and Antenna Repair for over 30 years. He was a founding member of the Kalamazoo International Soccer Team. On December 20, 1957, John married Dena "Claire" Greenfield, who preceded him in death in 2014. John and Claire were members of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, where they volunteered in the food pantry. Devoting their heart and time to the church, John also served for many years as a Deacon and Elder. John was also a volunteer at Second Impressions, where he fixed donated televisions. His family includes his children: Jan (Scott) Onderlinde, Joan Vroegop, Lisa (Lester) Sluis, John (Lisa) Vroegop, and Eric (Susan) Vroegop; his grandchildren: Matthew (Lisa) Onderlinde, Christopher (Mallory) Onderlinde, Mark (Olivia) Onderlinde, Dena Baker, Emily & Ethan Blom, Brian Sluis, Benjamin Sluis, Noelle & Elizabeth Vroegop, Sarah & Rachel Vroegop; 5 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Pete (Evie) Vroegop, Adrian (Sue) Vroegop, Bill (Ruth) Vroegop, Frank (Marian) Vroegop; his sister Alice (Marty) DeJong; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Marie (Phil) Holtrop, Jo (George) Faber, Chris (Wayne) Leys, Bill (Mary) Greenfield and Pete (Jane) Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends on Thursday, December 27th from 4:00-7:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo. A funeral service will take place Friday, December 28th at 11:00 AM at the Westside Chapel. A private burial with military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
