Passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the age of 90. He was born February 27, 1925 Harmony, AR to the late John M. and Josie (Patton) Lewis. John was united in marriage to Olive Brew on October 8, 1943, who survives. John was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Comstock. Before that, he was a deacon and treasurer of Fundamental Baptist Church of Urbandale for many years. John was proud to have served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. John is survived by his wife, Olive Lewis; children, Diana Kissel, John (Katherine) Lewis III and Virgil (Vicki) Lewis; 5 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lois, Elsie and Nina; 2 brothers, Ervin and James "JW"; and son-in-law, Floyd Kissel. The Lewis family would like to offer a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice and The Laurels of Galesburg, for their wonderful care given to John and his family. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, December 30th from 11-12:00 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. John Lewis III and Brother David Pride will officiate services. Interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name may be directed to Southern Care Hospice, The Laurels of Galesburg or to First Freewill Baptist Church of Comstock.
