After 97 years John Benjamin Buckhout went to be with his Lord on August 26, 2020 peacefully at his home. He was born January 27, 1923 to the late Gerrit and Florence (Menninga) Buckhout. He was a life-long resident of Kalamazoo, and he served his country between 1943 and 1945 in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He married Marian Eloise Bosker on August 11, 1945, who preceded him in death on December 30, 1982.
On returning home from service, he graduated from Western Michigan University. He was employed as an accountant and was co-owner of McBuck Tire Company until 1983. John began his second career as Treasurer of Kalamazoo Township, where he served as an elected official between 1984 and 2008.
He was an active member of Third Christian Reformed from 1945 to his death. He served the Kalamazoo Christian Schools in many capacities. John and Marian had four children, Jane (Donald Smit), Thomas (Gundel), William (Deb, who preceded him in death) and James (Nancy). He dearly loved his 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will miss their Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 11 AM at the Third Christian Reformed Church (2400 Winchell Ave.), followed by a private graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Christian School Foundation or Hospice Care of Southwestern Michigan.
