Joann Henry (Thrasher)

Passed away peacefully on Sunday July 10, 2022. Joann was the daughter to the late Joseph and Leona Thrasher on March 23, 1938, in Muncie, Indiana. For the majority of her life, Joann lived in the Kalamazoo area. Joann was in charge of keeping a household with 5 children in order. When she had the time, she enjoyed shopping, dancing, collecting jewelry, sewing, and playing games. On September 23, 1955, Joann married her first husband, Marinus Verburg, who passed in 1987. Later in life, Joann married Pete, who she loved for the rest of her life.

She was a beautiful and vibrant lady who loved dancing, gardening and spending time with her family. Her home was always clean and neat. She kept a tight ship, raising five children she loved dearly.

Surviving Joann in passing is her husband, Peter; children: Steven (Arlene) Verburg, Jorene Morrow (Tom Penar), Evie (Scott) Longshore, Christina (Trent) Bennett; daughter-in-law, Sherry Verburg; stepchildren: Steve (Kelly) Henry, Mark (Monica) Henry, Randy (Michelle) Henry; grandchildren, Jason and Andrea Morrow, Stephanie Menninga, Brian and Jacob Longshore, Ashley Pingel, Heather Wyatt, Lindsay Verburg; step grandchildren
Victoria and Makayla Henry, Brynn, Aaron and Grant Henry, 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Jean (Roger) McMeeken, Veronica Gage, and Joe (Sharon) Thrasher; in-laws, Rosalie Hetrick, Betty Fenwick, Sue Verburg, Jeff (Debbie) Verburg, and Barb (John) Medema.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Marinus Verburg; son, Marinus Verburg, Jr.; brother, Bob Thrasher; and son-in-law, Bud Morrow.

A visitation will be held in Joann's honor on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 5pm to 7pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. A Funeral service will take place the following day, July 16, at the same location at 10am. The graveside service will follow the funeral at St. Mary Cemetery, Paw Paw, Michigan with a luncheon at Saddlebrook Farms, 4th Street.
