MacLagan, Joan Kaye Emig-Steele
of Texas Township Joan passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014 in the presence of her family and friends. She was born on January 6, 1949 in Kalamazoo. Joan graduated from Parchment High School, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and worked as a Corrections Officer for Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department for 27 years. Joan was a strong-minded, strong-willed and spirited woman. She was a true mother, friend, partner and sister in blood and bond. Surviving are her three children, Daniel, Nicole and Kacie; three grandsons, Damian, Harrison, and Christian; brother, John Steele; and many "adopted" children and siblings. Joan returned to the loving arms of her grandparents, Willard and Ferne Mae Gildea Beck, and parents, Carville Emig and Lucille Beck-Emig Steele. A funeral service for Joan will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, where friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kalamazoo RESA - Young Adult Program or Kairos Dwelling, who cared for her and many others.
