Passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the age of 87. Janet was born in Detroit, MI on March 3, 1930, the daughter of the late DeForest L. Barnhart and Helen Margaret (Thoma) Barnhart. She attended Western Michigan University, where she received her Associates Degree. She was employed with the Upjohn Company for four years. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, genealogy, ice skating, playing bridge and was involved with the Girl Scouts. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved to spend time with her family. She was married to Duane "Bud" Stimson, who preceded her in death on June 11, 2010. Janet is survived by her children, Judi (Bill Myers) Stimson of South Haven, Catherine L. (Scott) Smith of Fenton and Thomas (Janet) Stimson of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie (George) Bresani, Anna (Chrissa) Stimson, Adam Smith, Sarah Smith and Bill (Maria) Myers; and great-grandchildren, Ian Myers and Elia Myers. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Dell Barnhart in 1960. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish, 421 Monroe St., Kalamazoo, MI 49006, with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday. Private interment will take place later in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.The family request that a memorial contribution be given to Friendship Village instead of sending flowers, if you wish to make an expression sympathy.
