James Maurice Hiscock

October 6, 1931 — January 22, 2018

Jim Hiscock, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Monday morning, January 22, 2018. He was born October 6, 1931 to the late Maurice and Cordella (Reed) Hiscock. Jim was united in marriage to Lucille VerBeek on January 18, 1958. She preceded him in death in December of 1995. He was also preceded in death by an infant son in 1958. He was a member of Greenwood Reformed Church for many years and enjoyed participating in many church activities. He was employed by the Kalamazoo Gazette for over 40 years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football. Despite many health issues, he was a caring man and enjoyed helping others. Jim leaves behind his children, Mary (Steve) Bittner and Ann (Mark) McLain; grandchildren, Evan (Bridget) Bittner, Kelly Bittner, Vincent McLain and Katherine McLain; one great granddaughter, Mae Bittner; sister, Elaine (Richard) Sweigard; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 26th, 11:00am, at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave., Kalamazoo. Rev. Jonathan Loper will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10-11am just prior to the service. Following a luncheon, interment will be in the Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan.
