Passed away on Thursday, December 3rd at the age of 67. James was born in Detroit on July 1, 1948, the son of Raymond and Hilda (Barney) Hilbrecht. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he received his B.A. in Music Education. He taught instrumental and vocal music in New York and Parchment, MI. He later became an electrical estimator and was employed by Esper Electric. James was married to Mary Linice (Vollink) Hilbrecht on July 13, 1974; she survives him. He is also survived by two daughters: Katherine (Ryan) Shaw of Fenwick, MI and Anne (Jeffrey) Lash of Coopersville, MI; five grandchildren: Ava, Isaac, Allison, Aiden, and Elliott; one brother and two sisters: Kurt (Liliana) Hilbrecht, Sharon (Jerry) Ryan and Lana (John) Sherwin; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, December 11th at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, with a luncheon to follow. Pastors Heather Molner and Jeff Lash will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
