James Alan Hansen passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Kalamazoo. He was born March 16, 1931, in Grand Rapids, MI a son of Henry R. and Julia (Young) Hansen. James graduated from Union High School. He enlisted into the US Air Force in 1951 and served four years before being honorably discharged as a S/Sgt. He continued to serve for 35 years in the VFW where he was a Past Post and District Commander. James was a Little League Baseball coach and enjoyed 25 years as a Boy Scout leader. He also served as Past President of the NE Grand Rapids Lions Club. He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone company for 38 years before retiring. James was a faithful member of Haven Reformed Church.
James was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Hansen; second wife, Norma Hansen; parents; and a brother, Terry Hansen. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Bauer) Hansen; sons, Larry (Patty) Hansen, Jeffery (June) Hansen, and Timothy Hansen; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, David (Eneida) Hansen; sister-in-law, Linda Hansen; and several nieces and nephews.
James was laid to rest in Rosedale Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday, December 11, 2021, in Haven Reformed Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10am and during a light reception following the service.
