WISE, Mr. Henry E. "Hank"
Portage, MI Went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon February 5, 2011. Hank was born August 21, 1929 in Augusta, Michigan a son of Joseph and Henrietta Penning Wise. He was raised on the old Upjohn Farm and later moved to Decatur, MI where he went to school. Hank's grandparents were the first celery farmers in the area. He was employed with the Upjohn Company for 17 years, retiring in 1988. Hank was also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and volunteered with the Sheriff's Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys M. Wise on October 3, 2010; a son, Henry in 1975; a brother, Joseph "Bud" Wise; and a grandson, Tommy Miller in 1978. Hank loved flying airplanes, riding his " Harleys", boating, camping, and owned race cars until the death of his son, Hank #97 at the Kalamazoo Speedway on June 1st 1975. He is also survived by their children, Deb Nault and Mike Cherrie Wise all of Portage; 4 grandchildren, Michael S. Miller, Jessica Amey and Christopher Massey, Michelle and Brian Wise, all of Portage; a former daughter-in-law, Dona Bill Lasinski & family of Lawton; a sister-in-law, Marie Wise of Kalamazoo; 2 brothers-in-law, Walt Marilyn East and Don Diane East; his beloved dog, Tarrie; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1 o'clock Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 5625 Oakland Dr., with Rev. Jeff McVay officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Mt.
