Henry passed away Thursday evening, April 21, 2016 at The Laurels of Sandy Creek in Wayland. He was born on December 9, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Jerry and Josephine (Engberts) Doorlag. Henry was a veteran of the United States Army serving two years from 1957-1959. On June 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Betty A. Kuiper. Henry was employed by the City of Kalamazoo for over 35 years until his retirement. Surviving are his two children: Larry (Janice) Doorlag of Plainwell and Kathy (Aaron) Chapman of Allegan; five grandchildren: Brian (Renee) Doorlag, Steven (Lauren) Doorlag, Stephanie Chapman, Michael Chapman, and Jessica Chapman; great-grandson: Jack Doorlag; sister: Rena VanZee of Kentucky; two brothers, Harm (Luella) Doorlag and Elzo Doorlag both of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 25 years: Betty Doorlag on February 9, 1984; and three sisters: Ada Arnold, Hattie VanderRoest, and Alice Ekema. Friends may visit with Henry's family from 10am-12pm on Monday, April 25, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 PM. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to Laurels of Sandy Creek.
