Gladys E. Pfau

May 10, 1923 — December 3, 2015

PFAU, Gladys E.
Kalamazoo

Heaven welcomed home Gladys E. Pfau on Thursday, December 3, 2015. Mrs. Pfau was born May 10, 1923, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Edward and Meta Plinske. Peggy had been a resident of Allegan, Michigan, for 36 years until June of 1995 when she moved to Crossroads Senior Living in Portage, Michigan. In July of 2011, Sage Grove Apartments in Kalamazoo, Michigan, became her home. She was named Gladys after her Godmother and Elizabeth after her grandmother. When she was born, her grandmother noticed that her ititials GEP spelled backwards was Peg, and from then on, she was called Peg or Peggy. She was united in marriage to Albert Pfau on August 14, 1943. While Albert was serving in the U.S. Army overseas, Peggy worked as a long distance telephone operator in Chicago, Illinois. She recalled making a phone call connection for President Roosevelt. Peggy was a loving mother to her three children, Michael (Jackie) Pfau, Gregory Pfau, and Aleta (Bruce) Pennington. She enjoyed knitting, reading, crocheting, baking, playing card games, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a televised game. Tea time with a dear friend was a daily event. Her love was a constant gift to those who knew her. She could find the good in anyone, and she had the talent to bring out the best in people. Anyone who had the blessing to meet her, walked away like they were given a gift. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Plinske; her mother, Meta Plinske; her brother, Richard Plinske; sister Jane Ohlson; and husband of 53 years, Albert Pfau. Surviving are her children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, December 8th from 10:00-12:00 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. A private burial will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or if preferred, memorial contributions in Peggy's name may be directed to a charity of your choice.
