Kalamazoo On Monday, March 16, 2015, Geraldine was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born December 3, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Peter and Johanna Meert Alphenaar and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. She worked for the local Red Cross for 19 years, serving as the secretary for the Executive Director, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Heritage Christian Reformed Church where she was involved in the Coffee Break Ministry and children's ministries and sang in the choir. On May 12, 1949, she married Isaac Visser, who preceded her in death on December 20, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kent Spencer; 3 sisters, Anne DeVries, Henrietta Sportel and Cobie Lemmer. Gerry is survived by her children, Marge Spencer, John AnnLouise Visser, Bob Sue Visser, Sue Greg DeVries and Harold Deb Visser; grandchildren, Jaci Chad Wynia, DeWayne Holly Visser, Jason Kristen Visser, Tim Kelli Visser, Becky Visser, Ryan Leila Visser, James Nicole Spencer, Dan Kari Visser, Nathan DeVries, Tom Visser, Katie Jevin Weyenberg, Luke Livingston, Maria Visser and Sam Visser; great grandchildren, Chloe, Rachel, Cody, Callie, McKenzie, Isaac, Lorelei, Caleb, Ella, Everett and Coby; 2 sisters, Nell Cornie Visser and Carol Paul Dykstra; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Pastor Simon Tuin and Chaplain Jim Wessing, officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, South. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Park Village Pines or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
