Kalamazoo Geraldine Reid Statler, 88, of Kalamazoo passed away peacefully on December 10, 2014 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Gerry, as she was fondly called by friends and family, was born to Gerald H. and Pauline B. Reid on July 8, 1926, in Kalamazoo. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Western Michigan University prior to marrying Albert F. Statler on August 27, 1949. Gerry was a former member of the Kalamazoo Country Club and a member of the Park Club. She was an active member of the Service Club now the Junior League of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Garden Club and the American Red Cross. Gerry loved her family and friends, books, music, dogs, tennis and the outdoors. Her favorite times were spent at the family cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan in Glenn. She spent many winters in Hawaii, Arizona and Florida. She was preceded in death by Albert, her husband of 44 years. She is survived by her son, Fred Statler Celeste, her daughter, Holly Statler Reno Campbell, her sister Jackie Metzler, and grandchildren Elizabeth Austin, Dana Austin, Fritz Statler Erin and Maude Statler. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to SPCA of SW Michigan, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South St., Kalamazoo. A reception will follow at the Park Club, 219 W. South St. A private family interment has been held.
