Hendricks, Gerald
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Jerry went to greet Jesus on Sunday evening, October 20, 2013, from his home. A man of God, devoted prayer warrior with a gentle and kind heart, he will be remembered as an encourager to the body of Christ, as well as for his great sense of humor. Jerry was born September 24, 1948, in Chicago, IL, to the late Clarence and Jeanette Anderson Hendricks, and grew up in Oak Lawn, IL. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. Along with baseball, he enjoyed all types of music, but especially Southern Gospel Quartets. On April 14, 1984, Jerry was united in marriage to Marilyn Jenkins Hendricks, a Detroit Tigers fan, and his enjoyment of the game doubled. Jerry was blessed with two children, Scott Hendricks of Kalamazoo, and Sharon Michael Mbabazi of Uganda, Africa; two grandchildren, Emmanuel and Michelle Mbabazi. Also surviving are his brother, Thomas Katheryne Hendricks of Tinley Park, IL; brothers-in law, William Carolee Jenkins and Raymond Julia Jenkins; sister-in-law, Shirley Philip Stel; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Sunday, October 27 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, at Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 S. 11th Street, with Pastor Mark Swank officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to LCC/Hope for the Blind, Lighthouse Community Church, or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
