Craven, George E. Sr. Sgt. Major, retired, was born September 21, 1940 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He passed away at his home on Thursday, July 23, 2020 with his current wife, Evelyn, by his side after a long battle with cancer. He retired from the US Army with multi-awards for his work in the service as a sniper with multi-deployments in combat situations and wars. Additionally, he retired from the Department of Defense—where he worked for the Air Force as a civilian specialist and received awards for his dedication to his work on "special projects." He loved his family, wood working, and listening to audio books. George will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marlene; his fathers; his stepmother; and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by his mother, Anna Louise; his wife, Evelyn; 6 children; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and multi-siblings and cousins. Restricted family service—masks required—with full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan with a celebration of life to follow once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
