KORDELLA, Gary V.
Kalamazoo Gary passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at his home, following a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born November 26, 1943 in Washington, PA, the son of Matthew and Stella Kolanko Kordella. Gary graduated from Cannon-McMillan High School in 1961 and from the University of Akron in 1965, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After college and ROTC, he entered the US Army as a 2nd Lt. He was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Pittsburg Steelers. He had lived in the Kalamazoo area since 1989 and had been employed by the Pfizer Company for 32 years, retiring as a Master Senior District Manager. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and the Gull Lake Country Club. On November 30, 1968, he married Michele "Micki" Metz, who survives. Gary is also survived by their son, Christopher Kordella and daughter, Suzanne Kordella, both of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Alaina and Madeline Kordella of Kalamazoo; his mother, Stella Kordella of Mentor, OH; a brother, Scott Cheryl Kordella of Mentor, OH; and a niece, Kristi Kordella and a nephew, Stephen Theresa Kordella. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave. with Rev. Fr. James Adams, Celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3026 S. 9th St. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Thursday at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Following services here, Gary will be taken to the Catavolos Funeral Home, 3653 West Market St., Akron, OH. Visitation will begin Saturday, July 30 at 12:00 PM, followed by a committal service at 2:00 PM at Rose Hill Burial Park, Akron, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Nebraska Children's Home, www.nchs.org , the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
