Gale Eli Akins, 78, passed away August 8, 2019. He was born July 14, 1941 in Kalamazoo to the late Amanda Gale and Jane (Kindy) Akins.
Gale graduated from Michigan State University and mostly worked for himself during his career as a typographer. He had a love of books and trees and often spent time working on his HO Model Trains.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Laana Akins.
He is survived by his children, Christina Akins, Kenneth Akins, Sean Akins, and Jennifer McCuiston; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jason, Monica, Samantha, Darcy, Jessica, and Gracie West, Katherine Cannell, Anne, Lauren, and Nicholas Akins; and great-grandchildren, Conner, Molly, Madlyn, Marcy, Alex, Spencer, Trevor, Tony, Evie, Ellie, and Meara.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 16 at 5:00 PM at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Dr, Portage, Michigan 49024.
